Every year the society plans an informal event called careers and beers which aims to get students talking to and engaging with companies about graduate positions and possible summer internships. Again this year the event will be kindly hosted by the society’s sponsored pub ‘The Ark’. Companies in attendance are : Jaguar Land Rover Careers, Siemens Jobs & Careers, Thales, GE, Atkins, Frazer-Nash, Smarter Grid Solutions, SSE, AB InBev, BAE Systems, Babcock Clyde, University of Strathclyde, Rolls-Royce plc, EGGER Group, NXP semiconductors, Belcan, CH2M, IET on Campus and University of Strathclyde Students' Association.

Engineering Subcrawl

Our second event of the 2017/18 academic year and arguably the most fun! All students from any engineering discipline are welcome to join the EME society for a pint at each stop around the third oldest metro system in the world! A social event not to be missed! The event will start at the Union, then the Ark then, onto the unground tracks! Its a team event, so £1 per team member cost. Points will be awarded for challenges decided by the society with Bonus points being awarded to those who make it to 'The Garage' after the event. (Free Entry passes provided) Team with the most points will be awarded with prizes!

The EME society aim is to bring together students from all year groups within the course, this is the first chance to do so. The event takes place on the first year Day Zero. From previous years, attendance has usually been high from first years and from students of all other years. If quizzes aren't your thing, still come down for some free drinks on the Society!

EME/EEE Halloween Pub Crawl

Hi everyone,

Just a quick reminder about our annual Halloween Pub Crawl which is taking place this Thursday, 27th of October.  Tickets are available from the EEE resource centre in R4.01 of the Royal College building and cost only £1 for members / £2 for non-members so you have no excuses not to come along!

The crawl will begin in the Yard, Level 3 of the Union at 19:00. Please arrive on time so we that can get everyone organised and also so that you have plenty of time to solve the first challenge we have in store for you!

We have prepared a challenging route this year which should test even the veteran drinkers out there. In addition there will be a variety of fun mini-challenges along the way and great prizes for:

EME/EEE Networking Halloween Pub Crawl

Trick or Treat Everybody!!!

EME and EEE are collaborating for a Halloween Special Pub crawl on Thursday 29th October.

Get yourselves dressed up and join us for the crawl consisting of 8 pubs. We will be starting at The Union where you will get the crawl route and rules. 

Team sizes should be between 6-8 people. Every team has to be at the final pub (Vodka Revolution) by 10pm to receive their free shot and to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

You'll be able to sign-up and buy your tickets (£2) at the EEE Resource Centre. You will be given your ticket on the night, which will get you a free shot at Vodka Rev.

There will be prizes for the winners of each of the following categories:

-Best Costume (£20 bar tab)
-Best Team Costume (£30 bar tab)
-Best Team Name (Shot for each member/Cocktail Pitcher)
-Fastest Team (Shot for each member/Cocktail Pitcher) [To validate that your team has attended all the bars, group pictures should be taken at each pub with their drinks and post all the pictures at the end, with their team name, on the event page. The team that sends the collection of their pictures first will be dubbed the fastest team. Remember it has to include the final bar we reach!]
-Funniest Photo (Shot for each member/Cocktail Pitcher)

EEE/EME/CES Graduation Ball

Come along to the EEE/EME/CES Grad Ball to celebrate the end of years of hard work at the beautiful Oran Mor in the West End of Glasgow. This event will allow the different courses to get together and say a proper goodbye to friends before everyone heads off to their future careers. You do not have to be graduating to attend; all 4th and 5th years are more than welcome, as are plus ones. The night shall begin with a glass of fizz on arrival and a chance to mingle before a three course dinner is served. There shall then be some after dinner speeches followed by a night of dancing until 2am. It is sure to be a special night, make sure you don’t miss it!

Tickets cost £37.

Inter Departmental Football Tournament

Strathclyde 5-a-side Tournament, 22nd April, kick off at 2pm.

Fancy the chance to win a 16 team inter department tournament? Get your best team together for a Wednesday afternoon of great games and prizes.

First come first served entry, only £10 per team!

Signing up

4 teams from each department listed - EEE, MAE, Chemical Engineering and DMEM.

Teams of 5-7 players, most of them from your own faculty to keep the rivalries high!

Hosted by EME Society: Payment of £10 must be paid by 21/04/2015 to Darren Smith (Society rep, use above e-mail). He'll be in RC349 from 12:30 - 15:00 that day, or arrange to meet him earlier if that suits.

Bring a copy of the completed registration form too.

FIRST 4 TEAMS FROM EACH DEPARTMENT GET A PLACE so pay as soon as possible - Darren will be in the University every day over the Easter Break if you want someone in your team to pay him and guarantee your place.

Tournament Schedule

4 Groups: Each group contains one team from each faculty. Top 2 teams progress to quarter-final knockouts.

All games 20 minutes each. (Minimum 1 hour per team!)

There may be referees on the day. If not, usual rules apply (no players in opposing box, GK cannot leave box, rolling subs, no head-height rule).

Prizes

The EME Society are able to subsidise the event, so there will be excellent prizes for the winners and runners up.

The EME society presents an Afternoon Tea to celebrate women in engineering.  The event will take place at 3pm on the 25th of March in the Millennium Hotel on George Square.

The cost will be £8.50 per person.

This will be a fantastic opportunity for the girls of EME to network with one another, while promoting female talent in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Hope to see everyone there.

EME Paintball

On Saturday the 21st of March. The bus will leave the front of the Royal College building just after 09:00 with us aiming to be at the paintball site in Glasgow Shotts at about 09:40.

If you would rather make your own way there, the address is above.

Currently we’re aiming to finish at 14:00 with the bus leaving at 14:30. Lunch will be provided but you’ll need to bring money for any extra paintball rounds (and grenades if you’re feeling adventurous) , a spare set of clothes and a spare pair of shoes: so we don’t mess up the bus.

Glasgow Central Tour

We've been able to secure 20 places to go on the Glasgow central tours that allow you to go behind the scenes of Scotland's busiest train station. Tickets are £10 each.

If you're interested in a place please email eme-society@strath.ac.uk

Depending on the weather, you may be amongst the lucky few, given access to the iconic roof of Glasgow Central Station. With 48,000 panes of glass, this is no ordinary structure. You'll also get a chance to explore the dark corners of the Catacombs.

The Glasgow Central tour meeting point is at the ‘Glasgow Central Experience Banner’ to the side of the Mobility Point facing M&S. Please meet a bit earlier.

Please ensure you wear sturdy, sensible footwear (no open toed shoes or any heels). You should also bring a water-proof jacket in case of rain. Failure to follow any of these instructions may mean that you will be unable to attend the tour.

The Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC) is a venture between the University of Strathclyde, Scottish Enterprise, the Scottish Funding Council, Scottish Power and Scottish and Southern Energy aimed at accelerating the adoption of novel research and technologies into the electricity industry.

This trip is free and is limited to 5 places per year, to reserve your place, please email eme-society@strath.ac.uk including what year you are currently in. The bus will leave the front of the Royal College at 14:00 and will leave the PNDC at 17:00 arriving back at the Royal college for 17:45

EME vs. EEE Pub Golf

TICKETS AVAILABLE FROM THE EEE RESOURCE CENTRE. (£2)

With the Ryder Cup finished it is time for Scotland's next big golfing competition... EME vs EEE PUB GOLF!

We are going to take the friendly rivalry between our courses to the next level with this traditional pub crawl which gives you and your team a chance to win prizes and then for us all to come together at the last hole congratulations or commiserations in the form of some shots.

THE GAME:
It will be a nine hole course starting at The Union where you will get the course layout, your score cards and the rules! Every team has to be at the final hole (Vodka Revolution) by 10pm to receive their Well Done free shot and to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

THE TEAMS:
Your team can have between 4-6 players. Participants from outside the societies are welcome but at least one member of each team has to be a member of either society. So put together a team before you arrive or just come along and we can help you find one! Each player has to sign up individually for a cost of £2.

THE DRESS CODE:
It is expected (but not required) that players come in their golfing attire so look out your polo shirts and visors as it could be worth your while!!
IT IS ADVISED YOU DO NOT BRING YOUR GOLF CLUBS AS YOU WILL MOST PROBABLY BE REFUSED ENTRY TO THE BARS.
